INTERVIEWING

Before I even starting interviewing Cece, I was excited about it. I remembered Cece telling me stories about the weird elementary school she went to in my drama class last year. As soon as Muench said I was in a group with her, I was so eager to ask if I could interview her about her weird childhood stories.  I've done a couple interviews in cinema before, and I know that I am pretty consistently bad at them. I was actually so excited when I started interviewing her and realized that this one wasn't going to be terrible. Interviewing was actually fun and really easy this time. I sort of already knew what she was going to say, so that was cheating a little bit, but it was really easy to ask follow up questions. I could have probably interviewed her for another hour if we had the time. Editing was fun too because I got to find the school's website, to look for pictures, which meant I got to also learn more about the school. It was really hard to find B-roll to cover a lot of her stories, but I think they're bizarre and interesting enough that watching the cuts isn't super annoying.

BEING INTERVIEWED

Being interviewed makes me so uncomfortable every time I do it. I don't know why because I like being in front of the camera and I like talking about myself. Something about it I just really do not enjoy, so I was really putting off having to watch myself. It was actually kind of cool to see how Ian edited it though. I always like seeing what pieces people keep, and what pieces people choose to leave out. The B-roll was really cool too. I watched those shots of Mr. Kline's art class like five times, trying to figure out when and how they were filmed and I still have no idea. So yeah, overall, being interviewed still makes me uncomfortable but watching this video of me actually didn't make me that uncomfortable.

ZOIE INTERVIEW

So the way the groups were set up (we had four people), I never actually was a DP. I did watch Ian set up the camera though and helped a little with the lights. It was fun to watch. I think it is probably actually more helpful for me, learning wise, to just watch someone who is more qualified do things before I try to do them. I also got to watch another interview and see some more examples of how other people edit their interviews which is always interesting.
